Remind me who you are again?

Hi! My name is Colin Andrade (no…no relation to Billy). I’m a thirty-something year old who is chasing his dream of playing professional golf. I played in college (poorly, by the way) and have played competitively on and off over the last decade while building a career first in banking and more recently in consulting. I’m a dad to a two kiddos and two dogs, and husband to the most supportive woman on the planet.

Ah okay … and why are you doing this?

A few reasons:

  • I will never be convinced there is any job better than being paid to play golf…and I’m sick of NOT doing what I want for 50 to 60 hours per week. I’m actively choosing to do what I love.

  • There is this facade or pretense that to be a professional golfer, you must follow a certain path (junior success > college success > hot young talent on tour) that makes the dream unattainable for so many people. My opinion? … F*ck that, anyone at any age can get good enough to do this for a living. I intend to prove that.

  • If we are honest, life has come fairly easily for me. I have been truly blessed. I want to see what’s possible when I truly put 100% of my effort into something I’m passionate about. I want to set a lasting example for my kids and make my family proud.

Are you sure this is a good idea? How will you cover your costs?

To answer your first question, abso-freakin-lutely…it is an amazing idea. Putting all of my energy and focus into something I couldn’t possibly love more …of course that is a good idea.

Between a bit of consulting work, my course map business (www.hazardsascent.com), and our savings … cost is not the primary concern for the time being.

My real dream though is for this blog to take off and allow me support this journey through my writing. I’m hoping enough of y’all out there find value in the entertainment and motivation I can provide by telling my story.

Got it … but are you, umm how to put this gently, GOOD enough?

Can I sit here and say, with 100% honesty and confidence, that I know I’m good enough to accomplish my goal of making professional golf my career … ?

… no, I can’t say that.

Can I sit here and say, with 100% honesty and confidence that I have the foundational skill set, some modicum of experience, and most importantly, the passion and drive to eventually be good enough to make this happen … ?

Yup! Sure can.

Fundamentally, I am the best player I’ve ever been … and mentally I will have an advantage over just about anyone I play against. I have a roadmap for rapid improvement and a willingness to take advice from the smarter folks who are supporting me. All of that at least gives me a chance … right?

Cool man, I’m rooting for you … any other ways we can support this journey?

The best thing anyone can do is send positive vibes and kind words my way. I hoping we can create a community of folks who look at my journey the glass half full rather than observing from a POV of cynicism (although that cynicism is natural and if thats how you feel, I can always use the bulletin board material!).

The best way to financially support me is through introductions to folks within the industry who may be able to help me learn, grow and get better. That may be media opportunities to help grow this blog, contacts at courses where I can play/practice or sponsorship opportunities. Please also check www.hazardsascent.com and if you see anything you like, buy it!

Don’t hesitate to reach out via email with any feedback, thoughts, or opportunities to work together.
